Salem Co-operative Bank staff shares that warm, fuzzy feeling that you get after volunteering.
Clara-Visiting Lazarus House was a meaningful and humbling experience. Spending time volunteering alongside staff and community members reinforced the importance of compassion, dignity, and human connection. It was inspiring to see firsthand how much impact a supportive environment can have on individuals and families in need. Leaving Lazarus House, I felt grateful for the opportunity to give back and motivated by the strength and resilience of the people we met.
Kristen-Volunteering at Lazarus House Ministries food pantry gave me the opportunity to directly help those in need and strengthened my understanding of how impactful kindness and community support can be. It also encouraged me to become more involved in service and to look for meaningful ways to contribute beyond my local community.
Sarah-My experience volunteering at the pantry was very moving. Seeing family after family coming in with a smile gave me a deeper appreciation for the impact of donation efforts and the importance of helping one another. I would love to continue this effort quarterly.
Theresa-It was truly a meaningful experience to be part of the process of helping to make a difference with individuals and families. This experience is especially close to my heart because it is the community that I grew up in. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute and will always look for ways to continue supporting those in need.
Marion-It was such a wonderful experience. What made it especially rewarding were the interactions with the people who came in. There were smiles and conversations. It reminded me how powerful simple acts of kindness can be. I look forward to more volunteer opportunities in the future.
AJ-Lazarus House is an organization that prides itself on the values it upholds: Faith, Dignity, Compassion, and Collaboration. Working alongside their team, I had the opportunity to live and practice these values while being a part of something greater. Having the chance to assist at their food pantry showed me how deeply these principles guide every interaction. From every warm welcome offered to guests to the care put into making sure families received what they needed while maintaining their freedom of choice. It was a privilege to be a part of an operation that stands to support a community with such heart and purpose.
We are so proud of our team for giving their time to make a difference in our community.
-One in three children in Lawrence lives with food insecurities. The Lazarus House Food Panty is open just five hours per week and distributes over 10,000 pounds of supplemental food to over 1,800 guests in that time. Lazarus Ministries doesn’t stop there. They also run a soup kitchen, provide clothing, shelter, community resources and advocacy to support individuals and families who face challenges.
