Dedication to Community
Salem Co-operative Bank's ongoing commitment to its community has been one of the principal cornerstones on which the Bank was built. The Board of Directors, Officers and Staff share in the Bank's dedication to promote the Greater Salem community as one of the finest places to live. The Bank also believes that service to community is very important. Several members of its staff currently serve, or previously have served, on various boards and committees of religious, civic and other nonprofits, providing countless hours of volunteer assistance.
We are proud of the direction the Bank has taken. Here are a few stories we wish to share.
Salem Boys and Girls Club
A few years ago, a group of concerned business individuals, including Salem Co-operative Bank's President Ann Lally, met to discuss the need for a teen center in Salem . When the research was completed, the project was coupled with the need to renovate the local Boys & Girls Club that services an increasing number of children and teens in the Greater Salem area. After performing due diligence, this task force determined that $3.5 million was needed to be raised in donations and grants to guarantee the success of this project. Salem Co-operative Bank was one of the initial contributors, pledging a total of $610,000 to help kick-off the fundraising effort. Less than two years later, the Boys and Girls Club is housed in one of the most beautiful and prominent buildings in the Town of Salem .
Salem Community Benefit, Inc.
In 1997, Salem Co-operative Bank established a philanthropic foundation to honor the Bank's 75 th anniversary of service to the Greater Salem community. Thus, Salem Community Benefit, Inc. was organized for the sole purpose of meeting various charitable needs of Greater Salem. Since the foundation's inception, the Bank has contributed annually to this fund. The intent of the foundation is to consider all worthwhile community needs and to participate in direct giving to projects and organizations.
